Carol Miller Declares as Independent Candidate for US House

According to this newspaper story, Carol Miller will be an independent candidate for US House, in New Mexico’s 3rd district, this year. If she gets on the ballot, she will be only the second independent congressional candidate on the ballot in New Mexico history. The first was Betty Turrietta-Koury in 1996.

Miller needs a petition signed by 3% of the number of voters who voted for Governor in her district, in 2006. That works out to 5,779 signatures. Thanks to Denise Lamb for that figure.

Miller formerly ran twice for U.S. House in New Mexico as a Green Party nominee. If she were running as a Green this year, she would only need one-third as many signatures.

  1. Note to Carol Miller: Like, duh…..why aren’t you running for the Green Party nomination for this office? A 66% discount in the number of signatures required would seem to me to be a powerful incentive to do so.

  2. Like “Gail 4 Rail” [Greenish Virginia /Washington DC area transportation activist] Citizens For A Better Veterans Home found Ms. Carol Miller energetic but not all that ‘sharp’…..

  3. Carol Miller is a outstanding person, and has done great work for the Green Party and the nation. As noted in the article she has been an superb Green candidate, on the ballot.

David Gaines, you are sadly a perpetual couch critic above — is all talk and no action. In Virginia we’ve never known you to get off the couch, and get on the ballot for any office.

Gaines, You need to spend more time doing, and less being critical of those who do…

The sensible strategic approach of a veteran achiever like Carol Miller is clear. While getting all those signatures – she builds supporters – and grassroots networks.

That’s what we – Independent Greens – have done in Virginia. And reccommend it to all who care about our communities, and nation.

Thank You Carol Miller, for your courage to run, and offer voters a choice.

…David Gaines. Stick a sock in it.

  4. Oh, mention necessary but unpleasant truths and the critic, no matter how truthful, or insightful, or just plain logical, is the ‘bad guy’. Election after election, independents, and especially minor parties, run partisan non name loyalists whose moniker, platforms, and positions are almost immediately forgotten.

    What was Miller’s position on Nader/Camejo P2004?

  5. The reason Carol Miller is not running as a Green is because the same clique that managed the David Cobb coup, and subsequent dreadful presidential campaign in ’04, are in control of the GP still (how the hell is that explained?)

The US GP has a pretty abysmal history so far. I am hopeful that if Cynthia McKinney (or even Ralph Nader) can get the GP nomination, they can get the bums that are still clinging to power thrown out. Or else some new party is created.

I think the reason Miller is not running as a Green is the very same reason Cindy Sheehan is not running as a Green. No one ever has the chutzpah to speak up abt why Sheehan is not running as a Green.

The Obamarama doesn’t help, but nonetheless, when outstanding Leftists like Miller and Sheehan are shying away from the GP….

And you have to give McKinney credit for giving the GP a go.

  6. Not much luck from the McKinney campaign. Those bums are her biggest supporters and are running her campaign.
