Texas Republican Presidential Elector Resigns

Art Sisneros has said he will resign as a Texas presidential elector. He did not want to vote for Donald Trump on December 19, but he also did not wish to become a “disobedient” elector. The Republican Party is permitted to replace him with someone else. See this story. Thanks to Political Wire for the link.

Texas Republican Presidential Elector Resigns — 8 Comments

  1. One more reason to abolish the E.C.

    ONE election day.
Uniform definition of Elector-Voter in ALL of the USA.
Equal nominating petitions for ballot access.
    P.R. and nonpartisan App.V.

Otherwise — more of the same old gerrymander ROT — special interest gerrymander laws, Prez hack machinations (esp. undeclared wars, more SCOTUS hacks) — statist business as usual — pending USA national bankruptcy and total economic collapse (as has been the case for LOTS of foreign regimes for thousands of years).

  2. Technically, it is the electors who meet in December who choose a replacement elector.

    See Texas Election Code 192.007.

  3. Well that’s a shame. I can respect his reasoning, but it would have been nice to see him cast a vote for somebody other than Trump.

I suspect part of the reason, is that this now frees him from the need to decide who else to vote for, which was itself a contentious question. Half of the people would have been mad at him for not voting Trump; as many over again would have been mad at him for not voting for their preferred alternative.

  4. Jim Riley,

Thank you for that Texas Law info. This reminds me of what happen in CA in 2008. Representative Sherman selected an elector that died prior to the appointment
by him. A dead person was list for the DEM to vote for
Obama on its web site. After the election was over it became known that Presidential Elector was long dead.
Then the State Chairman of the DEMs changed the name of the Elector and the EC did not get to vote for the replacement under California Election Code procedures.

Do you think this will happen in Texas with the GOP, viz.,
not follow the laws of the State of Texas, like California did in 2008?

  5. Talking about illegal ballots in the state next to Texas, viz., Arkansas. The county election officials at Lonoke
County placed the name “Hilliary” Clinton on the ballot. It is well known that Clinton is a “liar”, but that listing made
those ballots void, because no reasonable person could
believe such ballots was a fair vote.

Lonoke County ballots should be declared void. Also
the ballots in 57 of the 58 counties in California should be declared void, because the required instructions in
CA Election Code section 13105 was not printed on the
    ballot instructions.

  6. Andy Craig, the Texas elector could simply abstain from voting for anyone like the Washington DC elector did in 2000 instead of voting for Gore. That elector, I believe, abstained to protest the lack of congressional representation for DC.

  7. The Presidential elections are over.wait until 2020.We have to live with Donald Trump.Unless he gets impeached.Or a stock market crash.Hillary Clinton was legally the Democratic nominee and voters had the right to vote for her.So this country will still be split.I would personally prefer high unemployment in the red states.

  8. So glad he resined now if we can get,Christopher Suprun 30th texas congreesional district to do the same!
