Texas holds a special election on Saturday, June 30, to fill the vacant 27th district seat. Texas special elections do not have party nominees, and no petition is required. Candidates pay a filing fee to get on the ballot. The race has nine candidates, 3 Democrats, 3 Republicans, two independents, and one Libertarian. Here is the candidate list. If no one gets 50%, there will be a runoff in September.

  1. Candidate/incumbent replacement lists.

NO more high cost/ low turnout special elections.

Part of Save Democracy election reform const amdt.

  2. The winners of the two primaries for the full term received 91% of the vote in the special election. It is likely that the other candidates did not actively campaign.

  3. Cloud and Holguin are the nominees who will appear on the November ballot for the full term.

Chris Suprun who finished 9th with 51 votes (0.14%) is one of the two self-proclaimed Texas faithless electors (Texas uses secret ballots). Apparently Larry Lessig, John Kasich, and Van Jones failed to campaign for him.
