On August 17, a Yahoo! News poll for the presidential race was released. It shows: Joe Biden 49%; Donald Trump 38%; other 3%; undecided 8%; will not vote 2%. The poll provides age categories. The “other” vote is much higher for young voters than older voters. The “other” is 7% for persons age 18-29; 5% for persons 30-44; 1% for persons 45-64; and 0% for persons age 65 and over. Considering Yahoo admittedly leans left, this isn’t a surprise. Take the numbers with a grain of salt.
The “other” vote will dissipate as the day approaches, as usual. I predict a total third-party vote under 1%.
Legitimate polls cost money to conduct. Thus, no candidate or supporter of a candidate would actually release their real results to the public allowing their opponent to get the results for free. Oh, and by the way, fuck you Frank Luntz.
Third party total will be over 1%, but no more than 2%. 1 1/2% looks about right.
Given how awful both Trump and Biden is, I’m predicting roughly the same percentage as 2016, about 5% total. Many of these polls are undersampling the youth and Independent vote, and those are the groups that are most open to voting third party as Richard Winger pointed out above.
