Does New York have the initiative?
No.
But of course the New York Times won’t cover the ongoing legal battle against their own state’s harsh candidate ballot access laws. It would go against their narrative.
Also the NY Times didn’t mention that Democrats in the California legislature are unanimously supporting the bill to outlaw paying initiative circulators on a per-signature basis, which will hugely drive up the cost of getting an initiative on the ballot.
The urban parts of New York and California could sink into the ocean and the country as a whole would be, better off.

The urban parts of California and New York contain a disproportionate share of very talented scientists and scholars and other creative people, in technology, in science and the arts.
