Constitution Party of Michigan Nominates Gubernatorial Candidate Who Had Been Removed from the Republican Primary Ballot

On July 23, the Michigan Constitution Party (which is called the U.S. Taxpayers Party in Michigan, but nowhere else) held a nominating convention. It chose Donna Brandenburg for Governor. She had originally sought the Republican nomination for Governor, but was one of five Republican gubernatorial candidates removed from the ballot for petition deficiencies. Brandenburg had declared for the Constitution Party nomination on July 16.

Her Lieutenant Governor running mate is Mellissa Carone, who had also been removed from the Republican primary ballot earlier this year. She had been intending to run for the legislature. Thanks to David Niggemeyer for this news.

Constitution Party of Michigan Nominates Gubernatorial Candidate Who Had Been Removed from the Republican Primary Ballot — 12 Comments

  1. Comparing states, apparently it is OK to do this when a former Republican doesn’t make the ballot at all. But when Don Blankenship lost the WVGOP primary in 2018, a kangaroo court stepped in and put the kibosh on his CP nomination (for US Senate). Here’s hoping for a Brandenburg victory in the Great Lake State!

  2. It’s twisted if you think about it: If she succeeded with her Primary petition and still lost the primary, she wouldn’t be allowed on the General ballot because of Sore Loser laws.

    You’re damned each way!

BTW, how often do five candidates including some potential frontrunners get kicked off the primary ballot due to petition fraud? I mean, that’s just odd.

  3. Weirdly, this is the second time in 2022 that a Female Candidate for the Republican nomination for Governor failed to make the primary and instead are running in the general as the nominee of the Constitution Party

  4. Interestingly Michigan is one of the states that has sore loser laws that prevent those who ran in the primary from doing so again in the general election. I guess because Brandenburg did not qualify for the Republican ballot that she is safe to be nominated by the Constitution Party.

  5. How much red commie cash for DB – to divide and conquer the rightwing factions for Mich Gov ???

IE Keep red commie Whitmer in POWER — and even be a red commie donkey Prez candidate in 2024.

  6. Gee, what a surprise. Thomas Jones, AKA “az,” posted his drivel on a Michigan thread.

  7. @Jeff
Colorado. That Party placed second in the 2010 gubernatorial election and then never ran candidates until now.

  8. Right – Tom Tancredo. And he is no longer even involved with the party flip-flopping back to Republican and hen independent. I’ll let Richard reply as to how that state affiliate has maintained ballot access without running candidates in a decade.

  9. Trump is the people’s choice to lead our Nation
And Trump is also the key to save our civilization
From hordes of swarthy foreigners who are sneaking in
We must preserve the tone of our grandchildrens skin
Trump will save us from evil globalist gender benders
And stop the great replacement white genocide racial enders
He’ll keep us Christian and bowing to God
And remind all the parents to not spare the rod
He’ll drain the swamp and lock Hillary up
Because she’s an evil witch and completely corrupt
He’ll stop us from getting into world war three
And preserve the land of the brave and the home of the free
Round up the illegals, deport every last one
And not rest for a second til our great wall is done
Trump will end the Holocaust of abortion for good
And appoint more wise justices to make it understood
That God is back in our schools and men lead our families
And forced integration will become but a memory
So for all of these reasons and so many more
Let each and all of us vote Trump in ’24!
