Minor rant: the Senate Pro Tem and Speaker should not be in the line of succession.
There was a Continuity of Government Commission post-9/11 that pointed out all the problems with the presidential line of succession. Predictably, nothing has been done except the Secretary of the then-newly created Homeland Security Department was added to the line.
As I recall (and please correct me if I’m misremembering), before the Truman Administration, the next in line after the President and Vice-President would have been the Secretary of State. Truman had the law changed to the present status because he liked the then House Soeaker.
The Speaker and Senate Pro Tem had been completely removed from the line of succession in an 1880s act passed a few years after the assassination of President Garfield (this was also not too long after the impeachment of Andrew Johnson and Senate Pro Tem Benjamin Wade was voting for Johnson to be removed so he could become President). When the new (and still in force today) 1947 succession act was passed in the aftermath of the death of President Roosevelt, the Speaker and Senate Pro Tem were added back in, but their positions were switched from the pre-1880s act due to Truman’s personal feelings on the two men.
Trump would be President because he is the actual winner of the 2020 election and got cheated out of it, plus runner up in the electoral vote as falsely certified by Mike Pence. Pence needs to be replaced as vice president by someone loyal to Trump though. We should not have traitors like Biden, Harris or Pence as POTUS or vpotus.
If it takes the military to actually enforce that I am totally fine with that and I think it will happen too, hopefully soon. But I am hoping Trump is put in as Speaker of the House just to make it even more official.

I recall meeting in S. I. Hayakawa’s office in 1981 and he raised that very question and stated it could not be him even if he was the Senate Pro Tem.

I believe that the reason Truman gave for the change was that he thought that elected officials should be first in line for the succession to the Presidency.

As there is an elected and verified house speaker,after like 18 attempts,mcarthy has retained the house gavel from hakeem jeffries,as nancy pelosi had stepped back prior to the new congress…so now,mcarthy is now back up should the vp not able to perform her duties,once the POTUS CAN NO LONGER PERFORM HIS JOB IN THE DUTY AS POTUS…
