On May 5, the Libertarian National Committee filed a lawsuit in federal court against eight Michigan Libertarians. Four of the eight defendants were Libertarian Party nominees in Michigan in 2022: Mary Buzuma was the gubernatorial nominee; Greg Stempfle was the nominee for Secretary of State; David Canny was the nominee for U.S. House, 8th district; and Mike Saliba was the nominee for U.S. House, 10th district. The case is assigned to U.S. District Court Judge Judith Levy, an Obama appointee.
The lawsuit says the defendants are violating the Lanham Act, which is the federal law dealing with trademarks. Here is the Complaint. There are two sets of Libertarian Party state officers in Michigan, due to internal dissent. The national Libertarian National Committee believes it can use trademark law to settle an intra-party dispute, something that has never been done before. Given the quality of some of the comments here, I can see why a certain amount of content moderation would be in order. Name calling is not an argument. Allegations without evidence aren’t, either. There’s a reason why legitimate news organization’s moderate the content of the comments section. It has nothing to do with their political outlook. I see it done by everyone from the Wall Street journal to the Boston Globe. It’s more about creating a haven for honest questions and concerns to be raised, rather than some (allegedly) discord server-driven effort to drum up criticism of an otherwise fine publication. This lawsuit is a result of desperatation. The “takeover group” has had a severe drop in membership and donations across the nation. So they use the few donations they have to sue for trademark violations, something the party does not even believe in. They are destroying what’s left of the party, and they don’t give a damn. Their primary goal is to purge all dissent.

When Mises lost in 2020 they gathered supported and attended conventions to win in 2021 and 2022. When the Weld/Sarwark/Bilyeu group lost in 2021 and 2022, they decided to start fake parties and attempt to overthrow the legitimate boards. Which is more ethical?

The commie takeover of the LP circa 2012-22 is over, regardless of the rear guard sniping by commies in retreat as evidenced above. These people lost, and they know it.
