Cornel West Will Seek the Green Party Presidential Nomination

On June 13, Cornel West tweeted, “In the spirit of a broad United Front and Coalition strategy, I am pursuing the nomination of the Green Party for president of the United States. I thank the volunteers of the People’s Party for the initial launch.” His website is CornelWest24.com.

The best-known example of a presidential candidate who had the nomination of multiple parties was U.S. Senator Robert La Follette in 1924. He had the nomination of the Socialist Party and also of the Farmer-Labor Party, as well as his independent candidacy using the label “Progressive”. Voters could choose which label to support La Follette in Colorado, Connecticut, Missouri, Montana, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Cornel West Will Seek the Green Party Presidential Nomination — 24 Comments

  1. The Green Party is on the ballot in 15 states plus D.C. Also this year it has legislative candidates in New Jersey and Mississippi, and perhaps will have some legislative candidates in Louisiana when filing opens.

  2. COMMIE DONKEYS CARE — ABOUT BIDEN LOSING IN MARGINAL EC GERRYMANDER STATES DUE TO CW ON BALLOTS

  3. Those 15 ballot qualified states are an opportunity for someone. Recall how Rocky Dele Fuente got on the ballot in numerous states by acquiring the state nominations of small, ballot qualified parties.

  4. Are any national political parties in countries with hundreds of millions of people truly functional? If so, do any of them accomplish positive things? How can it even be usefully determined whether they do more good than harm? What would be the time scale to best judge?

  5. IMO, the value of having a multi-party system is that it makes its harder for any one party or person to gain complete power. According to Madison in Federalist #10, it is the wide distribution of power across many factions that prevents any one of them from obtaining total power. In Madison’s view, this is how political freedom is protected. Anything that truly needs to be accomplished must be achieved by building consensus, and not by locking out people of contrary views.

  6. And, IMO. the countries of Switzerland and Germany today best exemplify how multi-party politics in a federal system prevent the over-centralization of power.

  7. I mean, effectively there is no “People’s Party nomination.” They only have ballot access in the one state and in that state they can’t automatically place a candidate for president on the ballot, so what good is that nomination?

Let’s be honest about what was going on. Nick Brana of the People’s Party was hoping to use Cornel West and his candidacy and campaign to help build a political apparatus for him. And now, on the people’s party FB page, Nick is whining about the fact that that’s not going to happen now.

Smart of Dr. West to move on to seeking the nomination of a party that has as much to offer him and his campaign as he has to offer the party as opposed to just being used for Nick’s vanity project.

  8. He must have found out that the People’s Party has no ballot access and that the Green Party already has ballot access in several states.

  9. Walter Ziobro is completely correct about preventing overcentralization. He doesn’t go far enough, but directional agreement is good, at least unless and until we reach the point where we no longer agree even directionally. Since we seem in no danger of reaching such a point any time soon, I won’t quibble too much.

I think he’s also correct in spirit, as was Madison, in balancing power. But the theory of the best mechanism to achieve that goal, has in my view been disproved over a quarter millennium of applied experimentation. Centralisation at an increasingly remote level (your founders original complaint, a tyrant three thousand miles away), ever more sprawling unelected bureaucracy, dissolution and replacement of the voting population, increasing population per representative, cutting of local ties by an ever more mobile populace, discounting of grounding in tradition and faith, weaker families (particularly extended), community ties replaced by bureaucrats and red tape, laws to complex for even the lawmakers and lawyers to know and understand, effective collusion between government and government adjacent interest at different levels, branches, and of different power factions has found its way around Madison’s would be barriers.

What would be more effective? In my opinion: matters other than national defense and criminal justice not in the hands of government at all; simple, easy to understand and remember laws; government outside of national defense only at a very local level where people personally know each other and each other’s families; business likewise focused much more locally; far less moving around, particularly long distance, and far less reliance on government, thus far more robust community ties; much greater respect for faith, tradition, and family values; blood and soil ethnic, cultural, linguistic, religious, and family kinship ties among leaders, and when possible also with the bulk of the led; a more robust reliance on volunteerism and charity and local nonpolitical involvement; personal experience with military service and law enforcement by the voters, along with willingness to serve being expressed by voting, and continuous civil defense/militia/neighborhood watch/reserves type service and training, and education of future voters including same; voters who must be married heads of households with children, property, several generations of continuing property ownership in the local voting area, of the majority cultural and religious group, well trained gun owners, veterans, gainfully employed or independently wealthy, and able and willing to pay substantial poll taxes, vote publicly on the record, etc; most minor offenses addressed by the family patriarch or by local volunteers with non criminal penalties; low and uniform taxation; voters tied to each other through a variety of nongovernmental connections; minor disputes mostly settled outside of law, with formal law enforcement brought in only in the most intractable and severe cases.

Another important matter: without so much far flung government and business, other Matters would tend to be far more locally focused as well. An important benefit would be news, education, entertainment, and other things also being much more locally focused, and thus under much more local control. I think that would prevent a lot of the big lie, agenda driven miseducation and propaganda in the service of long term opinion manipulation by globalist top down interests for whom the interest of locally tied property owning law abiding cultural majority group family interests and long term neighbors tied by various forms of kinship to each other run counter to their own, and the dissolution of such ties by any and all means presenting a greater opportunity for global top down control, government monopolizing all social interaction and problem solving, individuals isolated and unempowered to fight back against overly large and complex systems lacking proper accountability, etc.

Again, as always, please explain where and how I go wrong in drawing these conclusions, if you are able to do so with at least a minimum level of respect that someone could legitimately hold such opinions, that there’s at least some chance I could even be correct in at least some respects, that any opinions you or I hold ought to be explained with logic and face logical examination, you know, the minimal ground rules of a potentially beneficial discussion. If instead you want to yell insults, presume bad faith, dismiss a different opinion without considering it, etc, I can’t stop you from replying, but see no value that can result. I’m actually, genuinely interested in learning how and why I’m wrong, if indeed I am, what would work better, and why. It’s too bad there’s a lack of similar intellectual curiosity among even outside the box thinkers in a supposedly free country. Please suggest a better venue or venues for such discussion if anyone knows of any.

  11. Someone who has trouble distinguishing Trump from Hitler is going to lecture other people about not learning lessons from Hitler? If everyone and their brother is Hitler, the real next Hitler will sneak in, and nobody will take any warning seriously because of all the chicken little false alerts. Imagine if Paul Revere said the British were coming every week for a year. By the time they came everyone would be like “oh there goes crazy old Paul again. Time to go back to bed.”

The lessons from Hitler might be more along the lines of: don’t invade dozens of nations, don’t try to conquer the world, don’t try to centralize government power at the national or continental or global level, don’t try to put government’s nose into everything, don’t try to rapidly transform society from the top down (especially in unprecedented ways), don’t try to achieve perfection or solve all social problems through government, beware of hucksters who promise they can create a new man, superman, thousand year Reich, workers paradise, etc; don’t kill tens of millions of people, try to wipe out whole ethnic groups, and most of all, for God’s sake don’t even think about going to war with Russia, because everyone who ever did regretted it in the end.

  13. So, now to the rather odd contention that Trump is a lot like Hitler, we can add the claim that the US has been a monarchy since at least 1939. I had a sneaking suspicion that Biden and Trump must both be secret Roosevelt family members, but AZ finally nailed it for me.

  14. DID TROLL MORONS NOTE TRUMP SPEECH IN NJ ON 13 JUNE 2023 AFTER HIS NOT GUILTY PLEA IN FL ABOUT MARXISTS IN DC OUT TO GET HIM ???

  15. That’s because Marxists in DC actually are out to get him. So are Marxists in NY, GA, and everywhere else. The fact that totalitarians are out to get him doesn’t mean he’s a totalitarian or tyrant. It means he stands up to them and threatens their controlled opposition games which otherwise work really great to help lull the general public along the long slow march to global tyranny, population replacement, depopulation agenda, left wing fascism, slaughterhouses, death camps, killing fields, reeducation and work camps, 100% wealth redistribution, government control of literally everything everywhere, World War III in Europe, gulags, soylent green, camp of the saints, etc.

What Luciferian illuminati have planned for the 21st century makes even the bloody 20th look like a walk in the park. They want to kill off 90% of humanity and enslave the survivors more completely than anyone has ever been imprisoned or enslaved. Trump, Putin, Lukashenko, Orban, Meloni, LePen, Bolsonaro, and a few others stand in their way. That’s why the deep state and fake news that AZ constantly parrots throw so many vicious lies and accusations against them.

  16. UNDECLARED WARS GO BACK TO PREZ ADAMS 1798 NAVAL WAR WITH FRENCH REGIME.

  17. Therefore there’s no dark age that ever ended, no new dark age that has started, and without light there is no such think as darkness. AZ and many others have competing theories about what would make things better. Proof, however, is lacking. Even how to measure better or worse is not necessarily clear.
