On February 11, the U.S. House passed HR 7296, the “Save America Act” which requires people who wish to register to vote to show proof of citizenship, and which requires voters at the polls to show certain types if identification. The vote was 218-213. All Republicans voted for it, along with one Democrat, Henry Cuellar of Texas. Here is the text.
The bill only applies to federal elections, not elections for state or local office.
If the valid forms of identification are not provided to all citizens free (ie, subsidized) of charge, then this is an unconstitutional poll tax as per the 24th Amendment to the United States Constitution. This “Save America Act” is not a valid Article V amendment process by which the 24th Amendment can be overridden.

I like the idea of deporting all criminal aliens, including misdemeanors. If they have been naturalized, that should involve denaturalization, and birthright citizenship should be retroactively stripped from the children of illegals. Being present in the country illegally should also be sufficient for immediate deportation. I would also denaturalize and deport any citizen who provides illegals with housing or employment. And any legal resident or naturalized citizen ever convicted of any crime (felony or misdemeanor).
100 million deportations would be a great start. Let’s make it happen!

Monarchy can be bad, but it isn’t as bad as dumbocracy. With monarchy, a mad tyrant king can be deposed. With dumbocracy, bad incentives create increasingly bad outcomes over time. Limited government constitutional republic is better than both, but there are inadequate safeguards from sliding downwards into dumbocracy, so they need to be significantly tightened up. The changes in our form of government since the time of the founder’s have all been for the worse and worse. So, we need changes that don’t just go back to their original system but change things in the opposite direction along multiple axes and make future changes after that much more difficult.

In France, citizens register at 16 YO, when they are automatically registered to vote.
In Texas, there could be registration for the militia at age 18, with all issued an ID and registered to vote. Others would be registered when they move to the state, or update their address.
With statewide record of adult citizens, there is no reason to depend on the US Census for districting purposes.
The SAVE AMERICA act does exactly that.
