Wow, the trolls or bots or deranged or whomever have really taken over the comments here. Anyway, I am a member of the Solidarity Party. This was one of the biggest decisions in the Party in recent years and passed through the National Committee 7-3 with 1 abstention. The decision settled 2 issues. First, the National Committee could have called for 2 conventions next year: a convention to nominate the presidential ticket and another convention for all other Party business. By holding a single, omnibus convention, the opportunity is now gone to hold the non-presidential convention first, which could have helped to cancel the second convention and restored the direct membership vote. Second, because members now can only vote in a single election for delegates with all responsibilities, members will have much less flexibility to select candidates based on Party-business issues. This is so because (presumably) many delegate candidates will focus their campaigns on being de facto pledged delegates for a particular presidential candidate.
