The Libertarian Party ceased to be a qualified party in Maryland in November 2024, when it failed to receive 1% for president. Recently the Maryland State Board of Elections has sent a postal letter to all 19,000 registered Libertarians, telling them that their party had gone off the ballot and enclosing a voter registration card to make it easier for them to choose another affiliation.

The Libertarian Party is petitioning to get back on the ballot. In the past the Maryland State Board has allowed a reasonable amount of time before interfering with the party’s registered members, but apparently not this year.

For the second time, the Arkansas Attorney General has rejected language for a proposed statewide initiative, because the description of what the initiative would do is beyond a typical eight-grader’s ability to understand. A new law says initiatives must be described so as to be clear to people who read at an eighth-grate level. See this story.

On June 18, Edward E. Clark died at the age of 95. He was the Libertarian presidential nominee in 1980 and also the 1978 Libertarian Party candidate for Governor of California.
