On October 13, Fox News released a presidential poll. The results: Clinton 45%; Trump 38%; Johnson 7%; Stein 3%; other or undecided 10%. Both Johnson and Stein have gained since the Fox poll from last week. Thanks to Political Wire for the link.
The Inlander, a free weekly in Spokane, Washington, has this article explaining why Evan McMullin isn’t on the ballot in Washington state. The problem is the state’s July deadline. In the past it was in September, but over the years the Washington legislature has made the procedure more restrictive.
McMullin didn’t declare until August 10, and the petition deadline was July 23.
The Muncie Star-Press has this story about the 15 certified write-in presidential candidates this year in Indiana.
The story reveals that in Indiana, voters who wish to cast a write-in vote use a keyboard, which is attached to the voting machines. This solves the problem of illegible handwriting.
The Moderate Party is Rhode Island’s only ballot-qualified party, other than the Democratic and Republican Parties. However, it has no nominees for any public office this year. The only minor party candidates on the ballot for Congress or state office in Rhode Island this year are three Libertarians for state legislature.
The Moderate Party will continue to be ballot-qualified for 2018, however. It easily met the vote test in 2014, when Bob Healey, its gubernatorial nominee, polled 21.4% of the vote. That extended the party’s qualified status through November 2018.
According to this story, google searches involving “write-in” have been very high recently. The story says a large share of them involve “write-in Bernie Sanders.”
