Massachusetts Holds Three-Party Debate for Auditor — 3 Comments

  1. I have often wondered, why there is the necessity of a Green Party. What issue(s) – other than there strong position on the environment – is not already advocated by the Democrats?

  2. Green Parties hold important office in the national legislatures of several dozen countries, maybe more. Sometimes they hold executive posts in the national government too. I have a “news.google” alert for “Green Party” and it captures oodles of news stories from countries other than the U.S. Green Party politicians in other countries are always advancing ideas and sometimes getting them implemented. This is especially true in New Zealand and many European countries, but it is also true in Latin America, Australia, Asia and Africa.

  3. I agree new ideas are the main purpose of 3rd parties. I once read, something to the effect, that 3rd parties usually are based on the Great Idea or the Great Personality. The Prohibition Party, for example, is based on the Great Idea, while other great 3rd parties were based on the Great Personality, i.e., Teddy Roosevelt in 1912, Bob Lafollette in 1924, and George Wallace in 1968.

While I have a certain sympathy for the Constitution Party, I don’t see them remaining around too long because they really don’t have any Great Ideas, and thus far, they have produced no Great Personalities as their Presidential nominees.

The biggest fault I find with the Constitution Party, is they have this idea that the federal government should not be involved in things like Social Security and Medicare. And as long as they hold on to these negative positions, the American voter is NOT going to vote for them.

Whether the federal government providing Social Security and/or Medicare is “constitutional” or not, the American people don’t care. They understand, as I do, that both of these programs provide a safety net against for the common man (and woman) from being cast to the mercy of the world, and Medicare provides a safety net of health care for the elderly.

I just wish the Constitution Party would remove the scales from their eyes and recognize such.
