South Carolina Labor Party Changes its Name to South Carolina Workers Party

On March 26, the ballot-qualified Labor Party changed its name to the South Carolina Workers’ Party. South Carolina allows qualified parties to change their names. The party has been on the ballot in South Carolina starting in 1996. It has never run a presidential nominee. Thanks to Scott West for this news. See the party’s facebook page.

  1. South Carolina Armed Terrorist Savages?

    South Carolina Armed Terrorist Syndicate?

  2. Slight correction- the Labor Party in South Carolina has been on the ballot since 2006, not 1996, though the Labor Party was formed in 1996: http://www.ballot-access.org/2006/080106.html#16

More generally, it looks like the political background of this change is the fight over the Labor Party gubernatorial and congressional nominees last year. The elements that have seemed to win out, and thus are regrouping as the SC Workers Party, are from the pro-running candidates wing, so it will be interesting to see what their plans are for 2024.

  3. Seems like a minor change to me. Since South Carolina doesn’t seem to be a particularly industrial state I wonder why Workers rather than Farmer-Labor or something akin to that.

  4. Sounds like a bunch of demons tripping all over each other trying to dance on the pinhead of a Marxist Leninist pin.

  5. I recall some years ago, a guy in Australia founded a party that he called the Workers Party. But, it wasn’t a leftist or Marxist party. In fact, it was quite conservative in its outlook. The founder said that he called it that because he intended to represent folks who really work.

  6. Very smart idea. I think there was an Austrian or German or something guy that had the same idea a while back.

  7. I’m pretty sure I answered the parody/impersonation earlier. Could it really be that this is the kind of place where the impersonator is allowed to parody me, but I’m not allowed to reply?

In any case, let’s try this again. I am in no way, shape, or form an admirer of Hitler. I don’t share Hitler’s ideas, or anything trending in their direction. While it’s true that Hitler was not a Marxist, he was in fact a leftist, and had a lot more in common with Marxists – especially when it came to real world implementation – than with anything I propose:

Hitler and Marxists both favor a great deal of concentration of power in the hands of a central state that covers vast areas of territory and rules over hundreds of millions or billions of people. Marxists add the wrinkle that this state would magically fade away in some utopian future, but never came close to that in reality, because human nature is very different than it is in their absurd theory.

Marxists and Nazis both like all aspects of social life concentrated in the hands of the state, including things which other more normal societies put in the hands of the voluntary or private sector – families, churches, businesses, charities, fraternities, guilds or professional associations, religious orders, voluntary neighborhood groups, and so on. I propose the exact opposite: a national government which does nothing except defense from foreign invasion, and a local government which does nothing except defense from crimes.

Speaking of crime, I want a very short and simple set of laws that the average person can understand and memorize. Nazis and communists were notorious for their byzantine bureaucracies and pro forma legalistic complexity. I want a system of criminal punishment with very little warehousing of criminals at taxpayers expense; Nazis and communists were and are both notorious for vast networks of prison camps.

I propose very low and simplified taxation. Nazis had very high tax rates to support their vast machinery of government, while communists effectively had a 100% tax rate since government owned everything and everyone worked for the government.

Nazis and communists both had government seize guns from the civilian population. I propose instead that individual gun ownership should be encouraged, with voting rights conditioned among other things on owning and maintaining a sufficient armory of guns and ammunition to defend the household, as well as military service and training.

Speaking of voting, I propose annual elections, where local peace officers can easily be replaced. In addition, I propose that they can be easily replaced during the course of the year by the winning party. Nazis and communists have no real elections where there is any chance of anything actually changing, much less the identities of who carries out law enforcement, prosecution, judgement, execution etc.

We can go on, but the bottom line is that Nazis and communists have much more in common with each other than either of them have with my proposals. But, thank you to the impersonator for flattering me with the impersonation attempt. Better luck next go around.

  8. I’m talking about the comment above on April 14 at 7:42 pm, by Supermax, who was making a poor attempt to parody my views and proposals. Those proposals are described in varying detail in other discussions on this site over the last few months. The esteemed parodist was falsely trying to imply that I’m a Nazi or have some affinity for Nazis. For additional context see the comment directly above the failed parody attempt. If that still doesn’t help, I can only suggest remedial education.

My apologies for not spelling out my proposals in each and every discussion a would be parodist obliquely mentions them in, but I have a rather comprehensive set, and it would be unduly time consuming to do so. If you’ll stick around or peruse the archives, you’ll see more of them over time. Constructive criticism is always welcome, and less than constructive criticism will be addressed according to my mood at the given moment.
