The California National Party believes that California should secede from the United States. Its chair, Michael Loebs, intends to file to run for Governor in the upcoming recall gubernatorial election. See this story.
Fifteen Governors have signed a letter to the U.S. Census Bureau, saying the Bureau must release data needed for redistricting sooner than August. The Census Bureau has promised the data by mid-August. See this story.
One of the signers is Texas Governor Greg Abbott. Texas has a 2022 primary in March. In the past Texas has agreed to a later primary date, and there seems to be no reason why Texas shouldn’t move its primary to a later date than March. Illinois, which usually has a primary in March, has moved its 2022 primary to June.
Political scientist Bernard Tamas has this article in The Conversation, predicting that minor parties will grow stronger in the coming period in the United States. The Conversation is an on-line forum for scholarly articles.
Here is the text of HR 3863, by Congressmember Don Beyer (D-Virginia). It requires states with at least six U.S. House seats to use multi-winner districts. It also mandates ranked choice voting and nonpartisan procedures for drawing district boundaries.
