Ever since 2003, Gallup Polls has been asking whether respondents favor a new major political party. The latest poll shows 62% say “Yes”, which is higher than ever before, although it was almost as high in September 2017. According to this story, the U.S. Census Bureau now says it can furnish 2020 population data to state agencies that are responsible for redistricting by mid-August, instead of at the end of September. However the data won’t be in a convenient format.

This is the case over the Ohio law that says the state elections commission should have three members from the largest party, three from the second-largest party, and one independent. Therefore, no third party member may ever serve.

No news about their decision will be known until Monday, March 22, at the earliest. The March 19 conference was notable for being in-person for most of the justices, the first in-person meeting they have had since last year.
