On October 22, the North Carolina House passed SB 249, the bill to alter the boundaries of two U.S. House districts. The vote was 66-48. The bill had passed the Senate the day before.
North Carolina doesn’t have the referendum, so there is nothing voters can do to stop the bill from taking effect.
On October 22, an Eagleton Institute of Politics Poll released figures for the New Jersey gubernatorial race: Democratic 50%, Republican 45%, “someone else” 3%, undecided 2%. See the results here. Scroll down to the first data page. There are only four candidates on the ballot, so it seems the pollsters could have mentioned each of the four instead of using a “someone else” category.
On October 21, the state of Arizona filed a federal lawsuit against the U.S. House of Representatives, to obtain a ruling that Congresswoman-elect Adelita Grijalva may take the oath of office from any person who is eligible to administer the oath. Gallup Polls regularly asks respondents if they favor the existence of a major new political party. The poll released on October 20 shows 62% favor such a party, which is near a record; the past record had been 63%.
